2023 Syrah
Hello old friend… with your sumptuous black plum and sandalwood, strawberry tart and vanilla bean, black olives and eucalyptus. There’s a spicy note here, with jasmine and dark chocolate. This wine wants to be at your next card game or bbq.
Pair with Santa Maria tri-tip, chicken Marbella, or an herbed, cinnamon spiced couscous.
I'm ready for summer.

Vineyard notes
An unusually wet and very cool start to 2023 resulted in budbreak commencing three weeks later than average. The fruit developed slowly through a cool and foggy summer. Lacking any major heatwaves, the vines produced beautiful and abundant fruit weeks later than typical harvest dates. A late heat spike ripened all our reds very quickly, which made for a very compressed vintage.
Production notes
The Syrah always combines different picks for optimal ripeness, and varying amounts of whole cluster. Our first pick was destemmed and placed in an open top tank for ferment. The second pick was split into two open top tanks, one 50% whole cluster and the other destemmed. All lots received daily pumpovers initially, then punchdowns toward the end of ferment. The 100% whole cluster was foot stomped daily for the first week, this classic technique was used to break up the clusters and help fermentation start. After four weeks on the skins, the tanks were separately pressed to oak, where they matured until the spring of 2025. The final wine is 30% whole cluster, with 20% new oak.
