2023 Petit Verdot

Rusty iron, pencil shavings, juicy and brooding with Chinese five spice and blackberries. There is a density and weight here, so when you add in this very pretty floral lift, it gives you layers.
Pair with dessert; it's unexpected and fun, and the possibilities are endless. Blackberry cobbler for the win with vanilla bean ice cream.

Vineyard notes

As the name suggests, Petit Verdot is not a vigorous vine; however, it does produce a large crop. In 2023, this was especially true. To keep the vine in balance, we removed clusters just after the grapes set, an important step in a cool vintage to ensure the fruit will fully ripen. It did, and we picked just over 3 tons of beautiful fruit in mid-October.

Production notes

Our small block was harvested in the early morning over two days. We slowly destemmed and meticulously sorted the fruit, removing green stems, leaves and slightly green berries. Fermented in open top tanks with native yeast, the resulting wine was pressed directly into French oak barrels one month later. It aged in barrel for 20 months and was bottled in July of 2025.
