Our Rosé has probably been my greatest teacher. It has taught me lessons in patience, curiosity, having faith, and knowing when to guide and when to step aside. This block, more than any other maybe, takes its’ yields very seriously. She will ferment how and when she wants, and will not be rushed. She’s always worth the wait, and I think she knows it.

This year she gives us lime blossom, perfectly ripe strawberries, with a bit of California citrus, as well as a hint of the leaves and sunshine that made her possible.

She has an energy to her that stays with you long after she’s gone.

  • ABV 12.7%
  • Vintage 2020
  • Region Santa Barbara County
  • Varietal 100% Grenache

Food Pairing

Drink this one on the beach with fresh sushi or spicy Thai food.

Vineyard Notes

Our low yielding block of grenache (clone 513) was picked before the intense heat waves that defined the 2020 vintage. The fruit ripens at different speeds, so we harvested the ripest first, leaving the rest to mature a few more days to develop flavors and aromatic complexity.

Production Notes

All the fruit was harvested in the early morning hours and went directly to press to capture the bright acid and delicate aromas that make this wine special. The slow and cold fermentation was completed in neutral oak barrels with native yeasts.

With a beautiful garnet hue, on the nose you find freshly picked cherries, cranberries, floral notes of violet and rose. A bit savory with oregano, and sweet basil leaves, as well as hints of black pepper, cinnamon, and clove. This wine is fresh and alive, and always gives the feeling of biting into a crunchy berry. Meant to be drunk young and chilled, although I think this wine will age in such an interesting way if I could ever wait that long.

  • ABV 12%
  • Vintage 2020
  • Region Santa Barbara County
  • Varietal 100% Graciano

Food Pairing

Pair with fresh green salads and goat cheese, pasta salads, roasted chicken, or a pool floatie.

Vineyard Notes

This almost 2 acre block was planted in 2014 by a happy accident. Though initially we planned on planting mourvedré, our graciano has found a comfortable home in the slightly acidic soils of the Right Left vineyard.

Production Notes

Our 2020 graciano was picked early in the morning and sorted before going into tank whole-cluster with a good dose of carbon dioxide. The lack of oxygen promotes carbonic maceration, where instead of yeast turning the sugar to alcohol, an enzymatic conversion takes place. After 21 days it was pressed and allowed to finish the fermentation in a stainless tank. It was bottled in March 2021 without fining or filtration, just an extra racking for clarification.

Our 2018 Syrah/Malvasia field-blend gives plum, cherries, fresh pine, freshly grated nutmeg, caramel, and peppercorn in the nose. There’s a dusty, chalky loveliness to this wine and a lift of orange peel that complements the ample structure provided by the 60% whole cluster fermentation.

Mouthcoating, with an elegant earthiness that transforms while in the glass.

  • ABV 14.4%
  • Vintage 2018
  • Region Santa Barbara County
  • Varietal 95% Syrah, 5% Malvasia Bianca

Food Pairing

Pair with roasted or braised poultry, aged gouda, ratatouille, or a perfectly grilled filet.

Vineyard Notes

Planted in 2014 this block is really coming into its own. After a cool and wet winter that led to a mild spring, we had great fruit set and slow and steady ripening through the summer. The perfect conditions allowed us to pick the fruit over a few days in late September.

Production Notes

2018 was our second vintage of this beautiful block of Syrah. With the vines in full production we experimented with whole-cluster fermentation in three distinct lots. After one month on the skins we pressed into 500L puncheons and 228L barriques. The resulting wine lots were uniquely delicious, and ultimately they complimented each other to create a complex and harmonious final blend.
